La Casa Blanca!

Hello, everyone! Well, the only person who is following me anyway...hello mommy! :)
I'm writing a short update before I forget.
I went to the White House today for a press conference with President Barack Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki! Sheldon was there, of course, and I took a couple of pictures to witness this historic event. It was such an amazing and thrilling experience and I could hardly believe I was in the rose garden of the White House! I'm going to upload a few pictures and then update again tomorrow. But trust me, it was an unforgettable experience and I'm glad that I had my trusty sidekick Sheldon with me. I promise I'll upload more pictures of President Obama, Sheldon and our adventures tomorrow.

Hello, world!

I'm starting a blog through my traveling turtle, Sheldon, and it's going to document his daily or weekly adventures. I hope I can keep up with this...

I've taken Sheldon to many places with me and I believe I'll start backward, posting at least a couple of pictures of places Sheldon has been. He's sort of my alter ego--I take a picture of him when I can't take a picture of myself. This may end up becoming my own diary, but I'll try and focus it on Sheldon. We'll see how this turns out!

I'm not very skilled in the blogosphere (yet!), but I successfully uploaded a picture of Sheldon at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, where I visited on the 12th. Sheldon was my only companion that day, as my roommates had already been there and had no interest in visiting again. I can see why one would only want to visit the Natural History Museum once, as it was the biggest disappointment in all of the Washington, DC area (so far). I went to mainly see the dinosaur exhibit, which I heard was quite amazing, because I had taken a dinosaur class this last semester and I fell in love with the creatures. I figured it was the flippin' Smithsonian...it HAD to be fantastic, right? Well, much to my disappointment, it wasn't very fantastic. It had about 12 dinosaurs squished into a relatively small room (considering dinosaurs were the biggest animals to ever walk the earth!) and of course the room was full of tiny children screaming and running around. I was so excited I almost ran to the museum from the Smithsonian metro stop-almost being the key word in that sentence-and ran into the dinosaur room to see a disappointment. I was saddened that the Smithsonian failed to collect any decent amount of dinosaurs. They did have a Troodon nest, which was rather impressive, but I would recommend New York's Natural History Museum any day. The rest of the museum was rather nice and I especially enjoyed the rock, mineral and gem collection. I may have an inner geologist that Sheldon and my dinosaur class professor have unleashed, but I could never follow through--I don't like playing in the mud.

Anyway, I think this is a pretty successful first post. I doubt anyone will actually read it but I'm going to try and post once or twice a day and upload old and new pictures of Sheldon. I might do a family tree posting of Sheldon too, with a picture of Sheldon and all his turtle friends. I LOVE taking pictures of him with turtles. It's a history lesson!
